eBooks: Finding eBooks

eBook Formats

eBook formats will differ according to the eBook provider, however eBooks are generally available as either PDF or ePUB files.

PDF eBooks have a fixed layout and do not adapt well to different sized screens.  As a result PDF eBooks can be difficult to read on devices with smaller screens such as tablets and smartphones.

ePUB eBooks however are able to adapt to match the size of the device’s screen, regardless of the device.  Therefore it is easier to read ePUB eBooks on mobile devices.

You can use Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) with screen readers. You will need one of the following screen readers:

Windows – JAWS:

Windows – NVDA:

Macintosh – VoiceOver:

How to search for an eBook

Find eBooks in OneSearch

Many of our eBooks can be downloaded to your PC or mobile device. The format and viewing options will vary by publisher. For more information, consult our eBook guide.

To find eBooks:

(1) Type your keyword search into the OneSearch search box, and then limit your search to Books using the limits underneath the search box. Then click Search.

(2) By default, OneSearch only shows items that have full text available at UWA, including both online and printed. To see only eBooks you can refine your results by choosing Full text online in the Show only limit menu, or in the Show only links at the top of the search results. You can refine further by selecting Books under the Resource Type limit menu. Your results list will now only show eBooks only.

(3) To view an individual title, click the View Online link beneath the publisher information.
