When you use OneSearch, by default, your results will include items that are not available in full text. This is because OneSearch searches across a large range of items including journal articles, books, reviews, and more, that are listed in the OneSearch database.
Items that UWA Information Services have access to will have either a location and call number information, or a link to the full text online version. For all items we don't have access to, a "No Online full-text" message and a Find It link appears.
To limit results only to items that UWA Information Services has access to, after you have run a search, select 'physical resources' under the 'Show only' option on the left hand side of the screen.
Note: OneSearch does not provide access to all of the key databases in all subject areas. Please see your Subject Librarian for further information.
How are results lists generated in OneSearch?
OneSearch will 'boost' records further to the top of the result list based on where the search keywords were found in the record. The degree of boost is as follows:
| Field | Boost factor |
| in the title | 3.5 |
| as author/creator | 3 |
| in subject | 2.5 |
| TOC | 1.5 |
| Description | 1.5 |
| ISBN | 1 |
| Language | 1 |
| Additional Title |
0.01 |
In addition, OneSearch includes a small number of local resources (i.e., results from the Library catalogue) in the top 10 results. This helps provide a more blended result list of books and journal articles and also helps when searching for known items (such as databases) in the catalogue.
